The Port Alberni Port Authority is actively encouraging growth and development of the marine cluster, including, the ship building and repair sector.  Specifically, we are partnering with Canadian Maritime Engineering (CME) in pursuit of capital investment required to build a new floating dry dock in Port Alberni.  This project has received community wide support, across all sectors, stakeholders and interests as represented on the Community Project Committee, comprised of local First Nations, City of Port Alberni, Regional District, Chamber of Commerce and other community advocates.  Market studies have demonstrated a clear need for ship building and repair facilities on the west coast of Canada as demand far exceeds existing capacity. In addition to the economic benefits such a project and ongoing operations would bring, there are a number of significant social and environmental benefits that would be achieved.

We will continue to actively work to support and encourage expansion of ship building and repair capacity as a vital economic sector and service for the development of the Blue Economy.
