PRIVACY IMPACT ASSESSMENTS
The purpose of the Privacy Act is to ensure the protection of the privacy of individuals with respect to personal information about themselves held by a government institution and the provision that individuals have a right of access to that information.

In support of the Privacy Act, the Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) is one of several tools designed to meet this challenge. The assessment is an evaluation process which allows those involved in the collection, use or disclosure of personal information to assess and evaluate privacy, confidentiality or security risks associated with these activities, and to develop measures intended to mitigate or eliminate identified risks.
