The Port Alberni Port Authority (PAPA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ken Mcrae to its Board of Directors effective Jan 23, 2025,  two-year term.

Mr. Mcrae was appointed by the Provincial Government. He is well-known locally as the former elected mayor of Port Alberni from 2001 – 2011, and has previously served on our board. Since then, he’s served as a Director on the board for the Island Corridor Foundation, Upnit Power Corporation and Island Coastal Economic Trust (ICE-T).

PAPA Chair of the Board of Directors, Shelley Chrest, welcomes the appointment of Mr. Mcrae: “his experience and skill set will benefit the Port, as we continue to work with our community and partners to create a viable and sustainable economic future for the Alberni Valley.”

There are seven directors who oversee the affairs of the Port Authority: four appointees made by the Governor in Council, as well as federal, provincial and municipal appointments. The present board of directors includes Shelley Chrest, Arne Elias and Jeff Cook.

PAPA is pleased with Mr. Mcrae’s appointment to its board. His knowledge of Port Alberni’s Port, history, and community are especially valuable as we look forward to continuing to contribute to economic diversity, vibrancy, and resilience in the Alberni Valley.
