The Port Alberni Port Authority (PAPA) is seeking quoted proposals for a maintenance dredge at China Creek Marina.


China Creek Marina is located along the Alberni Inlet at the mouth of China Creek with in the tidal zone of the Pacific Ocean. A marina and boat launch are located at the mouth of China Creek where a buildup of riverbed material along the north side of the marina basin is causing difficulties for boaters when attempting to utilize the facilities at low tide.


Marina Basin – Removal of up to 5000 cubic yards of small diameter clean cobbles and gravel by excavator with long boom, crane with clam shell or by utilising suction from a barge. Site map is shown in Figure 1.

All material is to be deposited at the designated site, Somass Lands barge grid, as shown in Figure 2.

Silt curtains must be readily available to be deployed in the water at the monitor’s request

Proponent to Provide:

· Example of all equipment to be utilised for maintenance dredge

· Example of equipment used for offloading.

· Machinery to be oil leak free.

· Silt curtains.

· All costs included.

PAPA to Provide:

· Qualified Environmental Monitor.

· Submittal of Notification to Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

Deadline: Proposals to be submitted no later than June 21, 2024, 4:00pm, and the project to be completed prior to July 15, 2024.

Timeframe: The Department of Fisheries and Ocean’s advertises that the summer window for this project begins July 1, 2024. As these materials are detrimental to our customers enjoyment of the facility, PAPA expects the project to commence early as possible in July and work until completion.
